2023 Alabama State Chess Championship
Hosted by Madison City Chess League and Sponsored by State Representative David Cole and State Representative Phillip Rigsby.
6 rounds Swiss. Three sections - Premier Section (Rating 1600+), Reserve Section (Rating under 1600, including unrated), Amateur Section (Rating under 1200, including unrated).
Time control: G/120, delay 5. Round times: Friday 7:00 pm, Saturday 9:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 7:00 pm, Sunday 8:30 am and 2:30 pm.
One half-point bye is allowed if requested before the tournament begins. After the tournament begins, you may request a zero-point bye or withdraw as needed.
This is a rated chess tournament. Active US Chess membership is required. If you are an Alabama resident, an Alabama Chess Federation membership is also required. Other state chess association membership accepted if you are not an Alabama resident.
The registration fee is $60 through Sunday, August 20th. Beginning August 21st, the registration fee increases to $80. Registration closes at midnight on Wednesday, August 30th. Late registration will not be allowed, and there will be no on-site registration. Online payment is preferred. If you wish to pay by check, you need to send your check - promptly - to the Alabama Chess Federation, c/o Todd Guthrie, 112 Southern Pointe Drive, Madison, AL 35758. Your registration is not confirmed until payment is received.
The annual membership meeting of the Alabama Chess Federation will be held 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the playing area on Sunday, September 3rd.
Players should bring their own chess sets and clocks.
The Championship section plaque and the title of Alabama State Champion will be awarded to an Alabama resident. Players from other states are eligible for all other awards.
